Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT)

The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree program was established in 2000 by the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC). The UCSC administers exams for the first-ever External Degree in Information Technology (IT) in Sri Lanka. The degree is awarded by the University of Colombo. This degree program has been redesigned according to ACM guidelines and Policy Framework for External and Extension programs declared by the University Grants Commission. VLE/LMS is the online portal to access learning courses for BIT degrees. As described below, the BIT degree program will last a minimum of three academic years.

Diploma in Information Technology (DIT)

The candidate will be awarded a certificate if they pass all of their continuous assessments and obtain a pass or a minimum grade of C in each subject, as specified in the first-year course structure.

Higher Diploma in Information Technology (HDIT)

A candidate who completes all courses with a pass or a minimum grade of C and passes all continuous assessments defined in the second-year course structure is given the Diploma in Information Technology.

Degree Certificate (BIT)

Awarded after completing the Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3 examinations and after meeting all other requirements outlined in the course framework.

At the BIT Convocation/Diploma/Higher Diploma Convocation, additional honors are awarded to meriting students enrolled in the degree program.

G.C.E. local O/L 6 Passes with minimum 3 credits including credits for Maths and English (Can be in one or multiple sittings).

AND

Pass (local) G.C.E. (A/L) 3 passes in the new syllabus or 4 passes in the old syllabus (for main subjects) in any subject stream in ONE sitting.
